The very first 21st Century Tiger Challenge took place in November 1999. Ten participants, people from all walks of life, raised the Challenge money in a number of imaginative ways so that they could take part in this amazing expedition.
As well as trekking in the Himalayas, the group went to a tiger reserve and a wildlife park, and also visited some of the conservation projects being run for local people. The group saw a host of Indian wildlife, and, probably best of all, three tigers.
Nearly £9,000 was raised for 21st Century Tiger, a partnership between London Zoo and Global Tiger Patrol.
